Lessons
Lessons available are 45 minutes ($45), 60 minutes ($55) and 90 minutes ($85) per lesson and are offered on a weekly basis only.  We require (at no charge) an introductory lesson and evaluation prior to reserving a weekly time slot.  There is no obligation to sign-up if you decide that our lessons don't meet your expectations.  Personality match is very important for both students and teachers and is one of the keys to reaching musical goals.  The introductory lesson is designed to discuss the student's musical goals and expectations and accordingly the teacher will plan the direction to go in order to best meet one's desired destination.  At the same time, it is important that students feel comfortable with the teacher and is confident that the teacher can help them nurture the development of their musical talent.  The better the bond between student and teacher, the easier it is to open one's mind to the learning experience.  Our goal is to help guide the student in becoming self-sufficient on the piano building both confidence and self-esteem.
Private vs. group lessons
I have taught piano one-on-one and in the college classroom over the years.  While the group approach worked well enough for teaching music history and theory, I have  found it to be a very poor substitute for the personal interaction and attention vital to develop each person's own individual strengths and to address their particular needs.  With group lessons, progress is often slowed for some by the pace of other learners who might not get the special attention they could use.  Talent is forever but desire can be "killed" through neglect.

Students are always more motivated, learn faster and have better comprehension with one-on-one instruction.

My Mission
Anyone can learn to play songs but the benefits of learning through repetition are short lived.  Long-term benefits come from understanding what you are playing.  I strive to empower my students with tools and knowledge which they can use for the rest of their lives.

Learning to play the piano has been proven to improve the mind's ability by increasing synaptic connections in the brain.  In addition to keeping us mentally sharp, playing the piano also helps maintain manual dexterity.  I hope to pass along these benefits and the gift of personal fulfillment which was instilled into me from people whose memories I still hold dear.

Adult students
I have many students who have had piano lessons as children and pick the hobby up again as adults.  I applaud these brave souls and I am always impressed with their desire to fulfill a lifelong dream.  I so often find that many adults have a great deal of untapped potential.  For those of you considering such an endeavor I assure, it is not as hard as you might think.  Too often students come to me
lacking a deep understanding of the piano, with only a surface knowledge of the instrument.  They have the desire to "lose themselves" in music but have never been shown the right path.  Desire is more important than talent.  Most often, any inadequacies felt are merely the result of unsuccessful music lessons experienced as a child.  There is hope and I promise you, with patience and with some time on the bench, you will realize small achievements, one at a time and great satisfaction along the way.
